On Wednesday 17th February at Brel the lovely people at Gathering Whispers have Panda Su, Julia & The Doogans and Sophie’s Pigeons playing some of that music that you might like.
Of these acts I’ve only saw Panda Su live and can testify to her engaging, almost mesmerising pop stylings.

Recently I became a Facebook convert and the constant stream of cool/shite stuff people post and beam poetically about is impressive in some sort of shameful way. So as and when I find something that i think should be further shared with you never make friends types it will appear here or there…

Another week & another spot on Vic Galloways Radio 1 Introducing show. I’ll be doing my B thing from midnight Wednesday talking up two artists that I’m currently listening to & loving.
I really love doing this spot as 1) I love radio as a medium of communication 2) new music is my single greatest love 3) Vic Galloway & producer Muslim Alim are two people I greatly respect as broadcasters & as people with great taste & passion for music.
So tune & enjoy.
Ps I believe the excellent Three Blind Wolves are in session. Ross Clarks moustache is amazing. Shame you can’t see it on the radio. Guess you’ll have to go see them live. No bad thing.

Last update was 7 days ago. With good reason. The 10th was my birthday. And it got messy. Until Saturday and that wasnt an easy day to deal with either. Now I tell you some of what happened….
Tuesday saw the 13th Note in Glasgow invaded by 45-a-Side loving fools. That being 45-a-Side Records, who were presenting a stuning line up of Scottish talent; Olympic Swimmers / Brother Louis Collective / Meursault / Barn Owl.
It was a stunning evening of beautiful, interesting, engaging and stirring music. And me drinking tequilla as if gravity would fail if I did not. These are four bands that on most peoples lips and rightly too. Check em or be a twat.
Wednesday saw a night of two halfs for me. First was Eddie Izzard. Funny. Then down to Bar Bloc for the launch night of Detour Scotland. Sadly I missed a lot of the carnage, and I mean carnage. Though still had to fight my way in the door and then took 20mins to get a drink, though this was mostly as I meet nearly everyone I know from every part of the music scene & industry. All of whom regailled tales of the evenings amazing events. To recap, I missed; the Premier of Detour Scotlands video of kidnapping Bronto Skylift and having them play under a bridge in Stirling, an outdoor acoustic set by This Silent Forest (which cause a people jam on Bath Street), an indoor acoustic set by Idlewilds Rod Jones & a stunning as always performance from Lions. Chase. Tigers.

As is the way I was there in time for Bronto Skylifts set. Fuck me. I see these boys alot but. Fuck. Me. Pictures describe it better than I. So here….
Once the hell hounds had been re-caged I did some DJ’ing, drank some rum and then fucked off to bed. Please with what I had seen & heard. If Detour can do half the carnage of this night for their future podcasts & events no one will be able to complain.
So download their podcast

Saturday 7th November 2009. The matter of life changing moments are delicate and almost always unexpected. Subtle on occasion, vericious and intent on others, just never lose your grip or you’ll be left behind. Hold on? Survive until the next.
My day did not start as expected, it ended with a true exhibition of evolution, courage and conviction. Take A Worm For A Walk Week destroyed Nice ‘n Sleazys last night. The gig intended to raise funds to help finish their lastest LP may have done more than cover mixing & mastering. The alternative direction of their new material is facinating, absorbing and undeniable. The Monroe Transfer, their last LP, was a 16 minute long head vs concrete wall experience of 2 minute maximum blunt instrument metal, with the wall the victor. Now, you have a sinister collection of 4/5 minute tracks which embrace pop structure yet retain the ability to chip into the concrete. Go listen. Go buy their t-shirts, their CD’s, just give them your fucking money.

…and in something of a change to scheduled programmes Ive been on the radio. Twice. BBC Radio 1 with Vic Galloway who plays two hours of undiscovered, under the radar, new scottish music. And I bring along two tracks from two scottish acts that i am digging.
In September I dragged my ass along with the following tracks;
Olympic Swimmers – I Won’t Sleep
Jousting With Dracula – Stag
And then in October, with a HELL YEAH! I laid the line with;
The John Knox Sex Club – John The Revaltor
Patricia Panther – The Darkness
Ill be back on the show on the 19th November with another two tracks that Im digging and you should too.
In the meantime check out my good friend Yvonne of Island Records choices until 12th November here..
